The second Flotation Device album for Mystery Lawn Music—the first to feature the full Flotation Device band—sees the compositions of John Moremen being fleshed out by a group of likeminded collaborators that bring new energy, depth, and immediacy to the prolific project.
Featuring John Moremen (Guitars), Ian Robertson (Guitars) Chris Xefos (Bass guitars) and Adam Symons (Drums), the new album started to take shape during live sessions at Mystery Lawn (Sunnyvale) with Allen Clapp engineering. The tracks then went to Symons (Treble Maker Studios, Oakland) and Xefos (The Governor’s Mansion, San Francisco) for overdubs before coming back to Mystery Lawn Mountain (since moved to Boulder Creek) for mixing.
What you get is a heavier, harder-rocking treatment of Moremen’s melodies, but also more atmosphere and vibe. Searing, interweaving leads and tumultuous 8-string bass lines are anchored by deft drumming — each player carving out space or taking the spotlight as the arrangements build.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign was funded, the album was released in late 2015 to digital stores, including iTunes, Amazon, and Bandcamp. Vinyl is coming early in 2016, so stay tuned! More info on Flotation Device can be found at: flotationdeviceband.com
